Database Analysis
Not every organisation seeks to replace their constituent relationship management (CRM) system. Some simply need a “tune up” of their CRM solution in order to realign it to meet the non-profit organisation’s business objectives.
Your CRM is the most important asset your organisation owns. Receiving an external, independent analysis is the best way for your organisation to determine if you are making the best use of your CRM. Our firm has experienced consultants who have conducted more than 750 of such analyses over the last several years and has expertise to identify areas for improvement, opportunities to implement best practices, and ways in which your organisation may increase fundraising and decrease costs.

Strategic Planning
Fundraising Review
Have you ever looked at something for weeks, months, or even years, and failed to see the issues or opportunities for improvement? An objective, outsider evaluation of your overall fundraising program is often times the best way to analyse what is working well, which programmes deserve an “early retirement” and where there is a chance for revitalisation or new programmes to take their place.
Fundraising Strategic Planning
A fundraising review is the first step in an overall strategic planning process. A fundraising strategic plan (FSP) is a three-year roadmap to guide your organisation toward a destination. A FSP is a vital component, which identifies the overall fundraising goal of the organisation, breaks the goal into specific strategies by fundraising area, and offers key objectives, tasks, and assignments at the programmatic level. Every person in your organisation will participate in the process to receive total buy-in from your team.
The FSP will include:
- A review of fundraising history, including key income streams and associated expenses.
- A review of gaps across the organisation.
- A comparative analysis to show how your organisation stacks against industry peers.
- Goals, objective and assigned tasks by fundraising area.
- Tools to measure the outcomes of the FSP quarterly, annually and across the lifespan of the plan.

Telemarketers – how not to end up with my donation
Little or no engagement during a telemarketing call is one way telemarketers calling on behalf of a non-profit organisation may not end up with a donation. I received a telemarketing call from a leading supplier in the market last week. The caller stated he was calling from <telemarketing firm> and he was representing X charity*. […]
Data cleansing is everyone’s job in a non-profit organisation or university
Do you think the dirty data in your CRM is the responsibility of one person or a team in your non-profit organisation or at your university? When there are data issues, it is easy to point the blame to a data manager or the supporter services team. Likewise, where there are data issues, you and […]
CRM readiness – critical steps to ensure success
Is your organisation ready for a CRM adoption? You might feel ready, but are you really prepared? Are you fully prepared for a new CRM? There are critical steps to ensure CRM readiness. The fact is a CRM adoption involves more than just a robust search. There are pre-requisite steps which must be completed in order […]
Christmas should be appeal heaven for nonprofits
Between the people who want to give and the people you want to help, Christmas should be appeal heaven. Seasonal periods are also an opportunity to refill the coffers through seasonal asks or gifting campaigns. Except it sometimes feels like you’re fighting a cage-match of competition, with the prize being donors generosity and attention. The […]
Which charity is first this year with a Christmas appeal?
My mother used to complain about the speed in which retailers put out Christmas merchandise. It seemed, at least by her book, the retailers started the Christmas season earlier and earlier each year. Each year I write a blog post about the charity which sends me their Christmas appeal first. Last year it was the […]
Is #GivingTuesday a gimmick? Perhaps. But, it is a gimmick that works
A few years ago, after the Fundraising Institute Australia NSW End of Year Celebration, I had a debate with another supplier about whether #GivingTuesday was anything more than a gimmick. I told the supplier she may think #GivingTuesday is a gimmick. But, it is a gimmick which works. #GivingTuesday, founded in 2012, is a global […]
Data cleansing is task #1 when preparing for your Christmas Appeal
There has been a lot of talk about upcoming Christmas Appeal. It may be August, but non-profit organisations are already preparing their data files and copy for what becomes the second most important campaign of the year for most charities. As part of those tasks, it’s not too late for non-profits to conduct data cleansing. Data […]
Fundraising – Don’t apologise for doing it
One of your Sydney-based fundraising colleagues sent me a request for money this week. The request, from a hospital, opened with “We hope you don’t mind, but this time we are reaching out to ask for your support”. Of course I do not mind. Maybe I did not mind before you raised the possibility. Even […]
If it is worth publishing, it is worth making an ask for a donation
Perhaps it’s an Australian non-profit thing. I receive countless magazines, annual reports, impact reports, and newsletters from charities across the country. Each publication is beautifully crafted. Yet, the publications lack one thing. They lack a request for a further donation. Why publish an annual report, a magazine, a newsletter, or anything without including a request for […]
